Toyota Avalon Stays True to Its Roots

The Toyota Avalon has always been a steady performer. Being a solid, comfortable car that's reliable, but not flashy, the Toyota Avalon finds itself among many top 10 lists.

The Avalon has been named one of the top 10 "most comfortable cars," among the top 10 "cars for seniors" and one of the top 10 "least expensive cars to insure."

When it comes to the purchase price for the Avalon, you will be paying more than you would for an average sedan. The manufacturer's suggested retail price for the base model, including destination charge, is $33,205. The Avalon may be a little pricey, but it's well worth it.

The 2011 Avalon is the first in its class to have rear seats that recline. The dash is well laid out with buttons and knobs that are easy to understand and operate. The interior is quiet compared to the Toyota Camry and blocks out most external and driving noise.

The new Avalon is run by a 268-horsepower V-6 automatic transmission and gets 20 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.

The Toyota Avalon is such a staple that it was the only Toyota model that had higher sales than last year. Sales through August were 5.3 percent above what they were during the same period in 2009.
