If you happen to be in or around the Pennsylvanian city of Allentown, it’s worthwhile to pay a visit to America on Wheels. Housed in a 48,000-square-foot facility, this museum is dedicated to preserving and displaying historic and rare vehicles. Here are three fun things to do there.

Permanent Exhibits

The main highlight of America on Wheels is its permanent collection of vehicles. The most notable exhibits in the museum include a Plymouth Road Runner “Superbird,” rare 1990s GM-built electric-powered EV1, a replica of Pee Wee Herman’s bicycle, and a lawnmower with a top speed of 65 mph. The life-like mannequins that are on display alongside the vehicles are an attraction in themselves.

Temporary Exhibits

Besides the permanent exhibits, you can also view temporary exhibits that feature vehicles on loan from other museums and private collectors. Over the years, the museum has displayed a wide variety of vehicles through its temporary exhibitions, including vehicles from popular movies, British cars, muscle cars, and pedal cars.

Kid’s Car Service and Restoration Center

If you’re visiting the museum with your kids, you should bring them to the Kid’s Car Service and Restoration Center. This center has a fabricated car for children to work on, giving them a chance to learn about the working mechanisms of a car.

Whether you’re an automotive enthusiast, history buff, or just an ordinary tourist, you can expect to have a fun and educational experience at America on Wheels. Make sure you check out the museum’s classic car-themed HubCap Café at the end of your visit.
